About this blog

This is a new decade for all of us and will be a new journey for me as I turn the corner on my forties into the realm of my fifties. Hard to believe. I invite you to follow my health and fitness journey as I reach my goal of wearing a size 10-12 while I am 50 years old. I know this will be a blog filled with joys, accomplishments, and probably even some setbacks, but the over all goal will be to keep going, keep moving, keep releasing weight to be a fit and healthy 50-year-old.

Gardening

Today I dug in my garden with my Makayla -  we planted part seedlings and part seeds. She is the best little helper!I am so excited! I planted tomato, eggplant, broccoli, cucumber, lettuce and spinach plants. And, I planted onion, Swiss chard, cabbage, carrot, asparagus, jalapeno peppers, red peppers, green chili peppers, corn, and onion seeds. I still need to plant my watermelon, cantaloupe, zucchini, and summer squash seeds tomorrow. But, the garden is really looking good. I fertilized all my seedlings and seeds with Quantum Growth - you can get it at groOrganic.com. It was such a beautiful day - I was in a state of joy while I was planting and digging in the garden. It is so grounding and digging in the dirt. Life is Bliss!

Bounty from the garden and some great words of wisdom

Here is what I picked in my garden today - after being gone for almost two weeks my garden is a mess. It needs weeding and picking bad.  But, today I picked a ton of tomatoes, green beans, jalapenos, green peppers, bell peppers, a small pumpkin, a crazy looking cucumber, a purple and white eggplant and a couple of squash - not quite sure what they are. The other day I picked two foot long zucchinis - that is what happens when you don't tend to your garden in the summer. LOL!

Any ideas of what to make with all these veggies?

And, the words of wisdom:

I was reminded today that I attract the people, situations, experiences, etc. into my life that my repetitive thoughts create. If I'm living something that's unwanted, it's simply due to a dominant thought pattern that I'm co-creating. Change the focus, change your life. Focus on what you DO want and you will begin to attract that higher vibration into your life.
Today I tried to go to Zumba class - I drove around in the parking lot for 15 minutes without finding a parking place - then I gave up because the class had already started. This turned out to be good news for Cleo- we went for a long walk - with a little jogging too. She loved it! Tomorrow a hike with Kimiko. We shall see if I have improved after a week of hiking in Utah. I hope so - the "hills" around here are killer!

Digging in the Dirt

I didn’t walk the Wilderness Trail today because my walking buddy wasn’t feeling well. I know I could have gone on my own, but since it was going to be my first time and I didn’t know what to expect – I went to the gym instead. Much more boring, I’m sure. I was really looking forward to taking in the great view from the top of the hill. I will get there soon!! So, today I did cardio at the gym after I unpacked my Gowearfit monitor and installed it. It wasn’t that difficult to do. It is so cool. I wore the armband all day and even downloaded the data twice. I know, crazy, but I was anxious to see how it worked. I inputted my food intake. The program does the calorie calculating for you and it calculates how many steps you are taking and how many calories you are burning. So, far today, as of this very moment I have burned – DRUM ROLL - 3358 calories and taken 9117 steps. By midnight tonight I should have reached my goal of burning 3800 calories and taking 10000 steps. This is so motivating to me. This is going to be the tool to put my fitness journey into overdrive.

And, after the gym I took a delightful trip to Armstrong Nursery to get some more plants. I really enjoy going there and looking at all the beautiful plants and pots and fun stuff. Today I bought a bunch of seedlings - artichoke, cantaloupe (something ate my other plant), jalapeno pepper, Anahiem chili, basil, cilantro, spinach, eggplant, cauliflower and cucumber. Then I spent the rest of the afternoon planting, weeding, digging and basically playing in my garden. I really love the feeling I get when I am out there digging in the dirt. There were humming birds, doves, lots of bees, even a giant back bumble bee – they were all fabulous. I really feel like I accomplished something today – digging in the dirt. I believe what I accomplished was grounding myself and actually living in the moment. I feel great now!! And, I think it helped in burning so many calories today!!! Woo Hoo!!

Gardening

I didn’t follow the plan for breakfast or lunch – oh the dreaded weekend, but got back on for dinner. Nor did I make it on my walk. But, that is okay because it was a bonus walk – over and above my goals for the week. But, I did do a little gardening – planting tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini and corn. I still need to plant some peppers, cantaloupe, spaghetti squash, and watermelons. Tomorrow will be a little challenging meal wise, since we are having a bunch of people over for Mexican food to see Stacy, But I have it under control – I order a healthnut salad for me, which is lettuce, chicken, avocado and some cheese and I’ll use salsa for dressing. I’m just going to have to stay away from those darn chips. So, for tomorrow’s meals:
Kale shake for breakfast
Lunch – some type of prepared meal/maybe and Amy’s entree
Dinner – Healthnut salad from Casa del Rey

I still owe you the Super Foods information. More to come.

go-Organic Garden Party

Yesterday was the first time that I did not blog since the beginning of my journey on January 1st of this year. Ooopppssss....and sorry. I had a super busy day yesterday with having a gro-Organic garden party at my house. Karen, the president of the company, gave us all some great information about organic foods and how to eat healthier and have great foods grown right in our own backyards. It was a great party!! Then today I went to go see The Color Purple with my good friend, Michele, and Donna and Colleen. Then it was dinner at PF Chang's. Nummy!!! Probably will need some extra cardio tomorrow to make up for that!!! Nighty Night!!!

Gardening and Those Darn Weeds

I didn't do a traditional workout today because I spent 21/2 hours pulling weeds. I have to really give gardeners credit. Boy, am I sore - what a work out!!! There is something so therapeutic about digging in the dirt. It does do a number on your nails though! Now my back yard looks great and I am ready to plant some more flowers and maybe a couple more vegetables. By the way the broccoli, brussel sprouts, lettuce, and spinach that gro-Organic planted in my beds are all really growing great and the seeds are now spouting into very small radishes, onions, peas and purple carrots. I can't wait to see what those look and taste like. Tomorrow I am going to re-plant my front planter. That will be another day of non-traditional exercise. I decided to try to plant some native plants in my planter to see if that will cut down on some watering. Not quite ready to go to all native plants and no grass, but we will see how this works.
